Candidate opposes CHCC project
Dear editor,
The impact of the proposed development
by the Christian Health Care Center on the
Hawthorne/Wyckoff border is being felt
throughout Hawthorne. I commend the
Save the Woods Committee for educating
Hawthorne residents about the dire
consequences of this development and join
them in their opposition.
Ideally, I would like to see the CHCC
abandon its plans and leave the area as it
is: nearly 20 acres of beautiful woodland
that protects the environment and is home
to a variety of wildlife. I know this is
unrealistic; the CHCC has the right to
develop its land. While acknowledging
this right, I think the towns of Wyckoff
and Hawthorne should not allow 258 units
to be constructed at this site.
The ball is now in the CHCC court.
They know Hawthorne residents oppose
the magnitude of the development and
must take steps to reduce its size. They
need to respond to concerns in some
official manner. Additionally, Hawthorne's
mayor and Borough Council must take a
firm stand against the original plans and
provide information to taxpayers as soon
as possible.
I am a candidate for the Third Ward
council seat. Residents of my ward are,
understandably, upset about this
development. But this is not just a
"Not In My Backyard" issue. Water
runoff, increased traffic, and the cost of
emergecy services are just three issues
that will plague the whole town if this
development proceeds as planned.
I will fight to oppose overdevelopment
in the borough.
