Deep concern about CHCC proposal

Dear editor,

I am deeply concerned about the Christian Health Care Center's proposal to construct a senior citizens complex on the wooded mountain. I grew up on Goffle Hill Road when the houses on Emeline Drive were built right behind my home. As stated in the 1956 newspaper article that was read at the Borough Council meeting on June 6, the flooding, mudslides and devastation to many homes on Goffle Hill Road was a heartbreaking disaster.

The most important thing the public must realize is that it just didn't happen in 1956, it happened continuously throughout the years. Yards were ruined, basements were flooded and even though the devastation appears to be under control, during any heavy rain, one can still see the homeowners pumping out their basements and sweeping out their garages. This is still happening in 2007.

Water is the most powerful destructive force. Look at New Orleans. Look what happened in the Catskills on June 19 and look at Lafayette Hills.

When flooding and runoff occurs, the question arises: who is responsible ... where's the accountability ... who is going to restore the homes of hard- working taxpayers.

How smart will it be to allow this development which will remove numerous trees. The project will make money for the Christian Health Care Center and neighboring homeowners will be spending money to protect their properties. Is the CHCC developer prepared to give homeowners a written contract to pay for water damage and repairs due to runoff. Will the developer and the CHCC be there to help their neighbors in need. Isn't that the Christian way.
