Home Who We Are The Woods The Project How You Can Help News & Press Contact Us

Save The Woods has been watching the progress of CHCC’s proposed apartment complex for over three years and we wanted to share with you the latest developments.

On April 21, 2010 the CHCC presented their updated plans to the Wyckoff Design Review Advisory Committee. The CHCC gave an overview of the project, including a verbal description of the entrance onto Sicomac Avenue, the proposed traffic light and the building materials which would be used on the outside of the apartment complex.

The Committee voiced a number of concerns including: where elevations start and change, only one entrance, parking and open space. The Committee requested that the CHCC create a scale model of the complex and a site plan of the intersection.

On June 25, 2010 the CHCC had a second meeting with Design Review Advisory Committee. The CHCC presented the requested scale model. Though the model was likely made to accurate scale the model lacked any point of reference making it impossible for any nonprofessional to visual the true size and mass of the nearly 600,000 square foot building. The model also did not show how the giant complex related to the surrounding neighborhoods. For a picture of the model, click here.

The CHCC made a special point to mention that the apartment complex would not be seen from Sicomac Ave. However, their own plans show that the building would be clearly visible from the Cedar Hill Shopping Center and surrounding streets.

Throughout the meeting, the Committee was still concerned with massive size of the building. They have requested new renderings of the proposed building with the outside materials added.

We also hope to see the plans of the intersection not yet shown as requested.
The next meeting, open to the public, has not yet been posted. We will inform you of any new developments.
